SECURING THE MOBILE HOME
Tie-downs are systems of heavy-duty straps and anchors designed to stabilize mobile homes during high winds. Failure to properly install, inspect and maintain tie-downs results in reduced capacity to resist sliding and overturning during a weather event.
Mobile homes are more easily flipped or damaged during windstorms than brick and mortar homes and they require tie-downs to remain stable. Because mobile homes are elevated they are more vulnerable to wind uplift. It is not likely that there will be cracks in mobile home walls but the appearance of uneven floors, doors and windows that won’t close properly all indicate the need for an inspection by a professional engineer.
